Old-School Hair Clips - #TBCCrafters (05/16/13)
TBC CRAFTER'S HOP (#TBCCRAFTERS) - 05/09/2013
Okay, so who remembers these 80's style hair clips from back in the day? We could jazz them up however we wanted and adorn them with anything to match an outfit, etc. I think my Mom made me some in every color combination known to man!! I thought it would be great to bring them back, so I made these. The clips are a bit different these days, I couldn't find any of those old kind that the steel piece in the back would break off after a million times wearing them and bending it to go under the tab to secure (remember those?) These are a bit updated and in the colors of our local school, I even added some sports beads and think I'll give them to my neighbor, who's a cheerleader there for her to wear!! Hope you enjoy!!
"Old School Hair Clips" Craft
Materials Needed:
- Hair Clips (With Opening in the Middle)
- (2) Colors of Thin Ribbon (Color Choices are Yours)
- Glue Gun
- Scissors
- Embellishments (Your Choice, Optional)
- & Time!!
Start by cutting out each color of ribbon into 36" long pieces. Cut as many as you need to make the number of clips you plan on finishing with. Remember, you need two different colors, each the same length for each clip.
Begin your clip by feeding the ribbon through, and making sure to even out the pieces of ribbon to match each other, otherwise, you'll have a lot to snip off at the end to even them out.
Now you can start feeding each set of the pieces throw in a braiding fashion, making sure to keep them even and level (no twists in the ribbon).
Keep doing this until you get to other end and all of the braiding is tight - you don't want a lot of room between each one, so be sure to pull tight and push down as you go. When you get to the end, make sure that you have both sets of ribbon on the bottom side and make a knot as close as you can to the clip to secure.
Now you can add any embellishments you wish to them, keep them simple or add more (flowers glued on, etc.)! Let me know if you plan to make one, or how you plan on changing it up and making it your own. Leave me a comment as to what you did with your creation. Thanks for visiting and I hope you like it!!

I'm No Angel Review
I received this book from Tyndale Publishers to read and review. I had no idea what it was about and who it was about, so had no first impressions, so to say. After reading it - it was a great story. I never understood modeling and this really brought a lot to light and confirmed a lot of how I feel about it. In today's world especially, women need to stick together and help each other be strong. Just like in the modeling scenes, as explained by Kylie, this isn't the case. There are a few goodhearted ones, but then the things come up of self-doubt, etc. That type of career is just not something that I approve of the way it is handled and perceived in our country and some others. Just because you're a size zero, doesn't make you beautiful!!
There were great stories, great photos and more in this book, including a great bible study at the end that teaches a lot and would be great for a young women's group to read this and then do that together.
One thing, I will say, in my own opinion is that I was very moved by her story and wanted to follow her on FB & Twitter. When I got to her FB page, the photos on the front were just not appropriate and not to me what seemed after reading this book, some of what she would seem to be standing against. Not sure how to feel about that. I don't like for people to say one thing and then show another, you know? Now I know in this world, there will be negative photos, etc. going around forever, but on your own "Public Profile" FB page, shouldn't you have control over what is shown? Just my opinion. All in all, a great read and perfect for younger girls struggling with the situations portrayed in the book.
ABOUT THE BOOK
In December 2011, 21-year-old Victoria’s Secret model Kylie Bisutti stunned the fashion industry when she chose faith over fame and fortune and made the switch from supermodel to role model.
In I’m No Angel, Kylie shares her story—from her early years struggling to make it big in the cut-throat world of modeling, her “big break” winning the Victoria’s Secret Angel competition, and the disillusionment and spiritual warfare that followed, to the moment she realized that she could no longer reconcile her career with her Christian beliefs, surrendered her life to God, turned in her Angel wings, and dedicated her life to preaching a message of modesty and inner beauty.
Along the way, Kylie talks about her personal struggles with inadequacy, low self-esteem, and her near-constant quest for approval in a world where you can never be thin enough, pretty enough, or sexy enough. She helps readers understand that true beauty lies within and that real fulfillment comes from knowing, loving, and serving Christ.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Kylie Bisutti is a former Victoria's Secret Angel. At 19, she beat out 10,000 other girls to win a modeling contract with Victoria's Secret, but upon achieving her lifelong dream, she realized she could not reconcile her work with her Christian beliefs, so in December 2011, she quit modeling for Victoria's Secret and dedicated herself to being a role model for young girls - her message being the importance of dressing modestly, honoring your body, and that true beauty lies within.

Outdoor Candlelight - #TBCCrafters - 05/09/2013
TBC CRAFTER'S HOP (#TBCCRAFTERS) - 05/09/2013
I saw this on "A Pretty Life in the Suburbs" blog, and wanted to make it to use for outdoor parties or even just for beautiful decor in or around the home. Thought it would be adorable, and I wish I could make about 100 of them to put all around the yard for when we're having a Marshmallow Roast or friends over for a party. The ones I saw used real candles, and I was not sure it would be safe to use regular candles, especially since we live in the forest with a high fire danger right now, but hey, to each their own...proceed with caution, right? I just used battery operated instead for safety - and hey, a fresh battery makes them just as bright. Enjoy!!
"Outdoor Candlelight" Craft
"Outdoor Candlelight" Craft
Materials Needed:
- Glass Jars (Size & Amount of Your Choice)
- 20 GA metal wire
- Candles (Regular or Battery)
- Pliers
- & Time!!
Start by making sure you have the jars you are using cleaned out and dry. I used the Kerr Jelly Jars from Walmart, so mine were brand new and clean. Check that off the list!! :) Then, wrap the wire around, under the rim of the jar and twist to secure (make sure it's tight or it could come off).
Once you have that wrapped around, measure out the wire to have whatever length you wish for it to be once folded over (I went with about 8" and 10" for mine) - totally up to you. Once you have the amount you wish cut, feed the end of the wire under the other that was wrapped around the top and twist that one together tightly.
Now you can put them anywhere you wish and use them for decorations or just ambience during your next party! How did you use yours, or how do you plan to? Leave me a comment as to what you did with yours. Thanks for visiting and I hope you like it!!
(Outside, hanging from the trees)
(Inside, so you could see the candlelight) :)

I got the new Rod Stewart CD from One2OneNetwork and wanted to share it on my blog. It is so good to hear from him again after so many years. He sounds just the same and like he hasn't aged at all. Still great music and ones you can listen to in any situation. I love it!! This is definitely one that would be perfect for a dance or even just blaring out the window while we have our BBQ days this summer. Great job, Rod!! It's a blessing to have you back!!
***********************************************************
Rod Stewart has spent four decades being a rock star, three being a parent, and has a new album's worth of rollicking stories to tell. Time is his first album of new material in almost 20 years (and his hairstyle hasn't changed one bit!)
Time, releasing May 7th, 2013, marks Stewart's long-awaited return to his songwriting roots and features 12 tracks, 11 of which he wrote and produced. Double vinyl LP pressing. 2013 release from the rooster-haired Rock icon, his first album of new material in almost 20 years. Time marks Stewart's long-awaited return to his songwriting roots and features 12 tracks, 11 of which he wrote and produced. Time was born from a burst of inspiration from which he rediscovered his voice as a songwriter and rekindled his gift for writing the honest, nerve-touching narratives that have been the cornerstone to the first three decades of his career. Since 1991, Stewart, the lyricist and melodist behind such staples as "Tonight's The Night," "You Wear It Well," "You're In My Heart," "The Killing of Georgie" and the indelible "Maggie May," had simply lost his songwriting muse. But, beginning in 2011, during the period he began working on what would become his internationally best-selling autobiography, Rod, it returned.
The album was born from a burst of inspiration that came while Rod was reviewing his life for his recent memoir. Rod rediscovered his voice as a songwriter and rekindled his gift for writing the honest, nerve-touching narratives that have been the cornerstone to the first three decades of his career.
"Suddenly ideas for lyrics were piling up in my head," he says. "Next thing I knew, I had a song called 'It's Over' about divorce and separation. And now I was getting up in the middle of the night and scrambling for a pen to write things down, which has never happened to me. I finished seven or eight songs very quickly and I still wasn't done, and it became apparent that I would eventually have a whole album of material to record."
Along with the release of Time, Stewart is set to embark on the European leg of his Live the Life tour on June 1st, while American dates with Steve Winwood will kick off October 17th.

Stand 4 Your Kids With Prayer!
I got this book from Booksneeze to read and blog about. I didn't know for sure what would be in it and didn't know if I had what it took to be a "Prayer Warrior Mom". I learned so much and God is using this book to help me change parts of how I parent and be able to rely on Him for things I don't feel I can do.
Some parts of this book that really stood out for me were, when the author asked a friend about what she learned going through a difficult experience and she told her, "Don't dread the difficult times. Take them and say, 'Thank You, Lord, that You count me worthy to learn more about You through desperate situations.' Now isn't that something we can all learn from? Take the negative and flip it over to good!!
Another quote given by Pastor Tony Evans was "You don't know that Jesus is all you need, until Jesus is all you have". Wow!! I so wish more people would start to follow Him earlier and not wait until they feel that is the last resort!
Another great part of the book is when the author asks her Mom how she made it through a hard trial. Her Mom answers her saying, " When trials touch my life, I know there's a reason. I may not know what the reason is, but God does. So I don't ask, 'Why?' I ask, 'How, Lord? How can I make it through this? What should be my first step?' Too many times, we ask "Why?" and not "What Now?" We need to lean on the Lord and know He is there for us through any situation!!
Those who don't know the Lord and worry about how they will prove themselves to Him always wonder if they are doing enough. A great quote in the book that I treasure in my heart is one based on Ephesians 2:8-9 and it says "Our good works do not "earn" us salvation, eternal life, or a place in heaven. Only our acceptance of God's grace and salvation through Jesus Christ can do that." Amen to that, I am so thankful that the Lord came into my life and saved me from this world. I can't wait for the day to hear "Well done, good and faithful servant - enter in to the joy of the Lord"!!
So as we continue to live on this earth, waiting for the Lord to call us home, I will continue to be a warrior for my son, Dylan, my family, friends and for Him by being a "Prayer Warrior Mom"!
About the Book
Moms, are you struggling with patience? Worrying about your children’s spiritual development? Concerned about their social or behavioral issues? Wondering how to get it all done when there’s just never enough time?
Author Marla Alupoaicei knows that today’s Christian moms want to be the parents God intended. They desire to pray boldly and stand in the gap for their kids. But many mothers haven’t been equipped with the prayer skills, scriptural knowledge, and practical strategies to fight the spiritual battle for themselves and their children.
Marla is no stranger to these trials. She has felt the simmering frustration and discontentment that come from the constant tension of trying to do it all for her family. But as Marla began to turn everything over to God in prayer, He granted her an attitude of gratitude, the antidote to despair. “When you and I choose to praise the Lord, He will be fully present in our hearts, in our homes, and with our children,” she says.
In Prayer Warrior Mom, Marla invites you to walk with her through fifteen life-transforming principles that will empower you to effectively intercede for your children. Learn to cultivate your own attitude of gratitude, pray Scripture, be persistent, pray with power and authority, be your children’s #1 advocate, hear God’s voice above the noise of daily life, and much more!
“The only real power we have on this earth is the power of prayer. Our potent prayers for our kids connect them with the reality of God and His will for their lives,” Marla says.
Mom, this is your year. Your year of spiritual breakthrough. Your year to see your children start loving God and living for Him. What are you waiting for? Become a Prayer Warrior Mom today!
