TBC Crafter's Hop (#TBCcrafters) - 12/13/2012

TBC Crafter's Hop (#TBCcrafters) - 12/13/2012

So I started out my Thursday Craft Blog with the idea of making a plate/dish out of candy.  I got all of the stuff together and followed the directions on Pinterest, and well - it didn't come out very well at all.  I think if I used regular mints (like from a restaurant) there would have been a big difference, but oh well.  Here's how it turned out:

:-P Oh well, so that didn't go so good!!  I then decided to just make something fun I saw on "ChildMadeTutorials" with my son to actually have a blog post that mattered, so here it is!!

Snowman Christmas Tree Ornament

What you need:
 (1) small white sock
(1) small piece of orange felt
(2) googly eyes (craft supplies)
(1)  6" length of red thread or ribbon
(1) small embellishment of your choice
(2) small rubber bands
Fiberfill Poly Stuffing (or whatever you use)
Sharp Scissors & Crafting Scissors (/\/\/\)
Fabric Glue or Hot Glue Gun

Directions:

1.  To begin, cut across at the heel of the sock you're using.

2.  Stuff the "toe" of the sock with the fiberfill or stuffing that you using.

3. Fold the yarn or ribbon you are using in half and secure the ends together with a knot. Insert the knotted end into the (unstuffed) cut end of the sock. Secure that end around the knotted end of the ribbon with a small rubber band. Slightly tug the exposed loop of the ribbon to form a hanger, and verify that it is seated.  (I could never get this to happen right and my 11 year old said "hand it over" and he took care of it!!) ha/ha

4.  Place the uncut end of the cuff over the rubber banded end of the stuffed toe section. Roll back the edge of the cuff and secure with fabric glue.

5.  After the glue has dried, cut the felt to make a nose. I used my special craft scissors with the funky edges  (/\/\/\/\) to do this.  Dylan cut his own with a different pair.

6.  Glue the noses on to the sock.  Using a marker, we colored the mouths on and glued on the googly eyes (Dylan said he wanted his to look different).

7.  When finished with that, use a red or pink crayon to add cheeks.  Pick the embellishment you want for the hat part and glue that on to adorn it.

8.  And that's it!!  Now hang your snowmen anywhere you'd like to decorate with a little homemade fun!!  My son picked the Christmas Tree for his, and I have mine in our entry way to greet visitors!! Fun thing to do as a family with those extra socks we always find in the dryer without a friend!!

  8. It's a good idea to "utilize" all the single socks in the house. They will be snowmen soon.
