Upcycled Jewelry Stand (#TBCCRAFTERS) - 01/17/2013

TBC CRAFTER'S HOP (#TBCCRAFTERS) - 01/17/2013

I've been looking around for different crafting ideas and good old www.etsy.com hits it again.  I love seeing the things that people make and are selling for outrageous amounts (this one for $45 plus shipping!!).  For those that are craft challenged, that's a deal, but for those of us who aren't, the ideas and savings are amazing!! Here's mine for this week!!

Upcycled Jewelry Stand

Here's one of those ideas for the things we either have too many of, or just sitting in our cupboards never getting used.  I hope you like it!!
Materials Needed:

  • Metal Cheese Grater
  • Spray Paint (color of your choice)
  • Piece of lumber cut to fit inside the bottom of the grater (dimensions vary)
  • Cup Hooks
  • Wooden Knobs (of any sort)
  • Time
  • Jewelry

 Instructions:
Insert piece of wood in the bottom (cut to fit as needed).  Spray paint the grater in the color of your choice.  Best done outside with plenty of ventilation.  Let fully dry before continuing.

Thread in a cup hook in each corner of the bottom, after the grater is completely dry.

Make sure to bend the hooks to have the grater stand flat & level.

Add whatever wooden knobs you decide to use.  Some pick globe-style ones and add jewels on them, etc.  I went with little bobbins and added some cross stitch floss to make them look like spools of thread.

When finished, add your earrings anywhere.  You could even put little clips on and hang necklaces or bracelets as well.  You decide what to display and make it your own.

Fun to make and would be a great gift for someone who decorates their home in vintage style.  Hope you like it!!

  1. That is such a good idea!!! I love it. Be careful though. I once lost half my pinky finger on a grater. They are dangerous lol.

  3. This is neat, I would have NEVER thought to turn a grater into an earring holder...Perhaps there is some crafty easy way to push or file down the sharp edges though...

  7. This reminds of steampunk. I am going to show my co-worker and see if we can do a program with our tweens and teens.
